Different advice and products in the market claim to take care of the skin. The list is endless and it can get confusing on which products to use, how to use it, and when to use it. Even if there are an infinite number of products out there, there are basic steps in skincare you can’t skip. In this post, I will show you what those steps are, and explain to you why they are so important. You’ll be able to see that having a skincare routine is simple, budget-friendly, and not time-consuming.

A clean face will do wonders to your skin

Washing your face seems like an obvious step, but some times we all skip it due to different reasons, such as lack of time, hectic life, or even tiredness.

Whenever I used to arrive late at home. I would put my pajamas on and get into bed as fast as I could and I would think that because it was only one time it would be okay. What I didn’t stop to think is that those times would add up and make a habit of not washing my face. And even if indeed it was only one time. That one time affected how my skin looked the day after.

When a person doesn’t wash their face, the pores get clogged and it causes different reactions (pimples, acne, itchiness, redness, etc). This is because the skin produces sebum (oily substance) to protect the skin. Sebum is good for the skin, but when you don’t wash your face it gets mixed with sweat, dust, pollution, dirt, etc.

Clogged pores are easy to prevent by washing your face at least twice a day. At night, you should remove all your make up and then wash your face. I do this with neutral soap and when I feel my skin extra dirty I wash it with baking soda. In the mornings is much easier, I wash it with the same neutral soap and if my skin is sensitive that day I use only water.

Hydration keeps skin issues away

The 63% of the skin is water, this means that the most important step to having beautiful glowing-looking skin is to be hydrated all the time.

Water is in charge of many body functions besides maintaining the skin hydrated such as absorbing nutrients, detoxifying the body, protecting organs, etc. So when there isn’t enough water for this body functions, there isn’t enough water for the skin. For this reason, it is important to drink the necessary amount of water, so there is enough water for your skin to remain hydrated.

Lack of skin hydration can cause many skin problems (eczema, discoloration, acne, dry skin, spots, etc). There are different skin reactions to dehydrated skin, so it is important to make sure that you are getting the right amount of water every day.

On average, you should drink 11 cups of water; and can also come in the form of tea and infusions. Keep in mind that water consumption comes from everything you eat and drink. Some fruits and vegetables are both rich in water such as watermelon, berries, cucumber, lettuce, etc. And can help you in your daily water intake.

Most of the daily and nighttime creams and/or lotions are humectant, after all, it’s what they are supposed to do. You don’t need to buy expensive face creams that promise wonders when many other affordable creams will make the job.

Sunscreen protects the skin from the UV rays, and even if we don’t see them, they are outside every single day. Including when it’s cloudy and raining outside.

The UV rays not only cause cancer and sunburn but also is the principal cause of premature aging. This comes with a leathery dry-looking skin and causes discoloration in the skin creating an uneven color, it also creates premature wrinkles and fine lines.

What my nutritionist has told me is that by eating 3 different fruits a day and different vegetables with different colors will give me enough nutrients. Of course, this changes for everybody, some people can not have much sugar from the fruits, they have certain restrictions, etc. Luckily you can buy multivitamins, although I would recommend for you to consult your doctor before purchasing any vitamin as you may not even need to buy any.
